Residential Pools: Benefits and Landscaping Ideas

When professionally installed and surrounded by beautiful landscaping, pools can be an asset to any home in many ways.

There are several advantages to be had from owning a swimming pool:

  • It can be a great place for social gatherings and entertaining at home with family and friends.
  • Your children will love having their own pool to frolic in whenever they wish.
  • There are some health benefits to having a private place to swim in every day. For instance, swimming can be a great form of daily exercise. Your buoyancy in water can lift some of the tension from the body’s muscles and joints, increasing movement and flexibility. Taking a dip can improve your mood and reduce anxiety as well.
  • Pools also add a different dimension to a residence’s aesthetics. Installing a custom swimming area, in particular, gives homeowners complete control over its landscaping design.

Now that you understand the benefits of building a residential pool, read on and get inspired by some swimming pool designs below.

Pool Landscaping Ideas

1. Easy and Breezy

If you aren’t much of a green thumb, consider having your pool and landscaping contractor create a low-key, easy-to-maintain plan for your outdoor space. Visualize a courtyard with lots of rocky, dry surfaces and a Mediterranean, rustic vibe.

Only a few plants are scattered about in an easy and breezy design. They are usually drought-resistant, meaning they do not need to be watered frequently. Below is a list of flora that could fit this aesthetic:

  • Beard Tongue
  • Types of aloe (i.e., Aborescens, Jewel, or Soap)
  • Fountain Grass
  • Artemesia (i.e., Wormwood, Powis Castle, White Mugwort)
  • Artichoke

2. Simple and Clean Cut

This is the typical vision of a backyard with a swimming area. Think of freshly mowed green grass surrounding a big rectangular pool filled with deep-blue water.

There may be a couple of bushes surrounding the corners of the yard, but the majority of the space is completely open. Some patio or pool furniture may be placed here and there under a covered area, like a patio with a pergola.

3. Island Oasis

Swimming pool designs in this form are on a whole other level when compared to the last two described above. Being in this landscape feels like stepping into a private tropical island with creeping plants everywhere. Signs of modern man are (almost) entirely invisible in this space; nature has fully taken over.

Designing your  island oasis can be quite fun. You could add a waterfall that seamlessly fits into the flora in the landscape. Some strategically placed rock formations could also add to the vibe.

5. Hollywood Glam

Pool landscapes in this style are usually vibrant and fun. Imagine a Jacuzzi filled with neon-colored water spilling into a rectangular pool with built-in fiber optic LED color-changing lights.

The entire area is covered in textured-tiled floors and potted flowers, giving the whole space a modern and chic appeal.

6. Accommodating and Eclectic

This poolside space has something for everyone. Typically, it is separated into several areas. One side could have lounge chairs covered in thick pillows for people who want to take a quick cat nap near the water. Another side could have a fire pit, barbecue section, or cooking area surrounded by tables and chairs for dining.

In a separate part of the landscape could be a gazebo covered in curtains flowing in the breeze. Comfortable sofas fill the inside of the structure for those who want to lounge around in the shade. It could be the perfect spot for people to curl up and read a book with a nice cool drink.

Bonus Tips for Custom Pools

When it comes to swimming pool designs, make sure to work with the right professionals. Do some research on what services you may need, from major projects such as the construction and installation of a custom swimming area to simpler tasks like landscaping and maintenance. With this in mind, it’s best to find a company that can turn your vision into a reality.

Residential pools are just like any other part of the home and should bring you comfort and happiness. These areas should be a space you can fully utilize as well. Keep these tips in mind during the creation process of your swimming landscape.
